During time spent in general duties, officers gain exposure to a broad range of specialised areas within QPS.

General duties officers are encouraged to explore their interest in specialist areas. Vacancies and opportunities in specialised units are advertised internally for officers to apply to.

Police officers compete on merit for specialist positions and need to demonstrate they have the ability to successfully perform the duties of that position. Some specialised areas are highly sought.

Additionally, specialist areas may require you to undertake further assessment before you are considered. This may include specialist psychological or physical testing.
